Born in Navahrudak on the 21st of January, 1842, he completed a secondary school in Grodno and then took up medical studies in Moscow and in Warsaw. His education was, however, interrupted due to his involvement in anti-government activities, for which he was arrested by the tsarist authorities. Following his release from prison, he began to work as an official, first at the Imperial Russian Ministry of Treasure in Warsaw, and then – from June 1872 – as an assessor at the Treasury Office in Kalisz. In 1890 he became a state councillor. As a publicist, he wrote articles for various magazines such as ‘Kaliszan’, ‘Gazeta Kaliska’, ‘Przegląd Poznański”, and ‘Wiek’. His works include Nowocześni pogromcy narodu polskiego i jego przeszłości w literaturze historycznej (1894) and Zarys pojęć o narodzie (1901). He also used the pen-names of ‘Snitko’ and ‘Prandota’. Herburt-Heybowicz died in Kalisz on the 25th of February 1900.
